Odessa may have one more sister city - Sochi

This was announced during the meeting of Odessa City Mayor Eduard Gurvits with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Ukraine Victor Chernomyrdin.
At the meeting, the questions of developing Odessa’s relations with different Russian cities were discussed. There is a chance for Odessa to have the first sister city in Russia in the nearest future. Until this time, Odessa has been cooperating with the Russian cities only as with the partner ones.
Sochi City is a Black sea port as well and is a member of the International Black sea club.
This Russian city is preparing itself to host the International sports competitions.  In the beginning of the next decade, the Winter Olympic Games is scheduled to be held in Sochi. There is an active “Odessites Sochi Club” Odessa Diaspora acting in this city.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Ukraine Victor Chernomyrdin supported the idea of introducing such sister city relations.
The honorary guest arrived to Odessa in order to participate in the festive opening of the restored Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater having taken place on September, 22.
