Odessa has joined the international action in support of premature babies

European quality of medical care for premature babies is provided in Odessa thanks to the city program "Health"

For nine years International Day of Premature Babies is celebrated around the world on November 17. On this day pediatricians, neonatologists, parents and non-indifferent people in 200 countries of the world come together to support premature babies. The famous architectural structures on this day are lighted in purple, which symbolizes in the world information about the problem of prematurity. This initiative is designed to attract public attention to the health of premature babies and the prevention of preterm birth.

This year, for the first time, Odessa has joined the initiative to hold the International Day of Premature Babies along with Kiev, Lviv, Kharkiv, Poltava and the other Ukrainian cities. Within the framework of the action, the purple illumination of Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre was switched on November 17.

At the initiative of the city authorities, thanks to the municipal program "Health" in Odessa was created one of the best in Ukraine departments of resuscitation and intensive care of newborns. Every year more than hundreds of babies are rescued there, and some of children have an extremely low body weight - less than a kilogram.
