Hanukkah is celebrated in Odessa. Picture story

Gennadiy Trukhanov: Odessa is a multinational city where each nationality respects the culture and traditions of its neighbors. That is why Odessa is loved and known all over the world

On December 12, 2017 hundreds of Odessites gathered on Primorsky Boulevard to celebrate traditional Jewish Hanukkah. One of the main customs of the celebration is the lighting of the Hanukkah lamps.

Congratulating the audience with one of the main Jewish holidays, the mayor of Odessa Gennadiy Trukhanov wished everyone peace and unity.

The Chief Rabbi of Odessa and the South of Ukraine, Abraham Wolf congratulated the audience and read the festive prayer, after which the first lamp was lit on khanukiyah. Within eight days, the lamps will be lit one per day.

On this festive day there were installed tents on the square, where everyone had an opportunity to buy souvenirs, Hanukkah and the other food, warm clothes, books on Jewish Sciences. All the present at the first day of celebration could take part in the festive lottery.
