Representatives of the USA Department of Health agency CDC have visited Odessa

The activity of Odessa AIDS Center has been positively evaluated by leading international experts

Representatives of the US Department of Health agency CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) have made a monitoring visit to Odessa city Center for HIV / AIDS Prevention and Control on February 2, 2018.

The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the medical care for people living with HIV and receiving antiretroviral therapy within the framework of the project "Strengthening the capacity of HIV / AIDS treatment in Ukraine".
Monitoring includes collecting information on best practices for helping people living with HIV to formulate proposals for improving work in this area.

International experts highly appreciated the progress made in Odessa in the question of helping HIV-positive people, and noted the readiness of the city authorities to support programs on counteracting the spread of HIV and the other socially dangerous infections.

Last May, the mayor of Odessa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, signed two important international documents: the Paris Declaration "The Initiative for Accelerating Action in Large Cities: Defeat the AIDS Epidemic" and Zero TB Cities Declaration on Counteracting Tuberculosis.
In September this year, in Odessa is scheduled a prestigious international conference "Health in the City", aimed at introducing the best practices in the world on citizens’ health improvment.

In Odessa is being implemented project on testing for HIV in the family outpatient clinics. At the expense of the city budget the city authorities had purchased rapid tests, which were given to the all Centers for Primary Health Care. The health workers have also been trained. Every Odessite is able to determine freely his HIV status for 10-15 minutes when visiting a family doctor.

A new urban program on counteracting HIV / AIDS, tuberculosis, hepatitis and drug addiction for 2018-2020 years has been developed and is being prepared for adoption. Preparations for the opening of a new substitution maintenance therapy station are in progress.
