Two small black leopards presented to Odessa citizens

On November, 18, two unusual Far-East leopard’s black kittens went out to Odessa zoo open enclosure for the first time.

Two Far-East leopard’s kittens, having been born five months ago, went out to Odessa zoo open enclosure for the first time.
This was announced by Odessa zoo science-education sector head Svetlana Kurochkina. According to her words, the kittens’ peculiarity is their being black while their parents have dots.
“Such an effect is explained by the increased level of melanin pigment, but still the dots could be seen when exposed to bright sunshine”, explained S. Kurochkina.
S. Kurochkina did also add, that one of the kittens is planned to be sold or exchanged for another animal.

INFORMATION:
There are 12 kinds of leopards in the words, and only 40 Far-East ones live in the wild life. There are only 200 such animals in the world zoos. Such felines live in the region of Korea and China and are inserted in “The International Red Book” as one of the rarest fauna representatives.
