Odessa Zoo’s collection is one of the best in Ukraine

Animals Day festively celebrated in Odessa the last weekend.

Animals Day was festively celebrated in Odessa Zoo this weekend.

The Zoo’s specialists introduced Ukraine’s Red Book and World Red Book to the guests of the celebration. The young visitors of the fest received an opportunity to get to know what are the rare and the disappearing species, World Wildlife Fund, International Nature Protection Union, and what kinds of animals protection programs are carried out in Odessa Zoo.

“We always try to draw the citizens’ attention to our zoological park and its pets in an interesting and unusual form. This time, the guests of the fest had an opportunity to take part in a master class with Chip and Dale, which was dedicated to saving animals, and participate in mobile contests and educational quizzes. All the participants got acquainted with the zoo’s pets, and the most initiative and savvy ones received different prizes and presents”, emphasized Odessa Zoo Deputy Director Igor Byelyakov.

At the time being, Odessa Zoo’s collection is recognized as one of the best in Ukraine. It counts over 1 500 fishes of 78 species, 45 amphibians, 108 reptiles of 30 species, one of the country’s best birds collection and Ukraine’s only predatory birds collection.

Besides, Odessa zoo is a home to 36 animal species recorded in the Red Book, 42 animal species recorded in the European Red List and 21 animal species recorded in Ukraine’s Red Book.
