UNO representatives gifted computers and office equipment to Odessa school, where the kids of refugees are studying

Odessa’s School No. 85, where kids from refugees’ families are studying, received computer equipment as a gift from United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ Office.

A meeting of pupils, parents and pedagogues with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Regional Representative Mr. Oldrich Andrysek took place in Odessa’s School No. 85 on occasion of United Nations Organization’s Day.

School No. 85 is the first one in Odessa, where the kids from refugees’ and shelter seekers’ families from Somalia, Afghanistan and different other countries began studying. The first Refugees’ Temporary Shelter Station is situated in the city’s Kievskiy District, not far away from the school.

The school received computer and office equipment, to improve its material and technical base, from the Regional Representative Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Byelorussia, Moldova and Ukraine.

“It is very important for all the kids to have an opportunity to get decent education. I wish all the kids, the ones from the refugees’ families in particular, success and more happier moments to have in this school”, said the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Regional Representative Mr. Oldrich Andrysek.

To greet the guests, the kids prepared a celebratory concert and a festive parade. For many pupils, the school has already become a true home, and the teachers try to create all the necessary conditions for them to receive elementary education of full value.

“This kind of work has been carried out in the school No. 85 for a very long time, and now, many different schools adopt this experience, as well. The fact that the educational establishments cooperate with Regional Representative Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Byelorussia, Moldova and Ukraine gives us extra possibilities to improve the conditions of education of kids from different countries”, said Odessa City Council Kievskiy District Administration’s Education Dept Head Natalia Savenko.
