Odessa Port’s pilots demonstrated supreme professionalism during thick fog

Thanks to professional actions of Odessa Port’s pilots and navigators, timely arrival of large «MSC LIRICA» cruise liner was secured. PICTURE STORY.

The last Saturday, on November 3, 2012, large “MSC LIRICA” cruise liner was brought to Odessa haven in very complicated weather conditions.

 

Because of very thick fog, in less then 100 m visibility, “visibility storm” have been announced.

 
251 m long “MSC LIRICA” cruise liner with 1627 tourists aboard arrived to Odessa port’s water area at 7:30 a.m., and the Captain got in touch with the duty shift of Odessa Port’s pilots, to find out the safe way to navigate the vessel in such weather conditions.

 
Odessa’s specialists have offered a double entry options which involved both a pilot navigation and an active radiolocating one.

 
Odessa pilot Vyacheslav Byespalov and operating pilot Yuri Stuliy have secured safe entry of the large cruise liner to Odessa port, mooring the liner to the docking line almost by feel due to very low visibility.

 

Thus, thanks to professional actions of Odessa Port’s pilots and navigators, timely arrival of large «MSC LIRICA» cruise liner was secured.
