Association of the Jews – former prisoners of ghettos and concentration camps held measures on occasion of the Holocaust Victims Memory Day in Odessa jointly with the Jewish Cultural Center.
On January, 29, the flowers of honor were laid to the memorial to the Jews – Victims of the Nazi on Phokhorovskiy square in Odessa.
As it is known, over 700 thousand of peaceful citizens (most of them being Jews) were executed during the World War II at the former Transnistria territory.
The flowers of honor were laid by the Association’s veterans, Odessa city council Secretary Alexander Prokopenko, Odessa city council Internal Affairs department workers, General Consuls of different world countries having their diplomatic representatives in Odessa.
The honorable measures were also participated by the writer Arkadiy Lvov, the former worker of Radio Svoboda who lives in the USA at the moment. His relatives were among the Odessa citizens having been executed by the Nazi during the World War II. In his interview, Arkadiy Lvov emphasized that a memorable museum dedicated to the victims of Odessa occupation needs to be created in Odessa, “This is our common pain. I am sure that such museum is to be created and donated by the representatives of different nationalities living in Odessa. This should be an establishment to be constantly upgraded with the new stands”.
Odessa city council Internal Affairs department leading specialist Oleg Zabolotny expressed his being sure of the present local government’s doing its best to honor the victims of the Holocaust.
