Ukrainian MIA denounces the vandalism acts at the Jewish cemetery in Odessa

Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs denounced the vandalism acts at the Jewish cemetery in Odessa having been perpetrated on February, 18, 2007.

"Ukrainian MIA definitely denounces the vandalism acts concerning the Jewish tombs at the cemetery in Odessa having been perpetrated on February, 18, 2007”, is said Announcement of the Internal Affairs Ministry.
In the document, it is emphasized that the ones having perpetrated this acts discredits Ukraine as a hostile home for the representatives of al the nations and ethnic groups where there is no place for anti-Semitism and other forms of xenophobia.
”Ukrainian government will do its best to disclose the crime and the guilty will be punished according to the Ukrainian laws”, is said in the Announcement.
 The unknown ones desecrated over 300 graves at the Third Jewish cemetery and two memorials to Holocaust victims in Odessa. Swastikas have been painted on the gravestones at the cemetery and on the memorial to Holocaust victims situated at Tolbukhin square.
The memorial was constructed in honor of over 25 000 people (mostly Jews) having been burnt alive by the Nazis during the WWII at this place.
 The writings and Swastikas were found at the Memorial to Holocaust victims at Phokhorovskiy square. The memorial was erected in the beginning of the birch alley having been planted in honor of different nationalities people having been doing their best to save Jews during the war.
