Odessites have built the record live line of people and dressed Duke in vyshyvanka. Photo

In Odessa was set the new record - 1,469 people in vyshyvankas have formed a human chain from the monument to the Duke to the sea. Photo

Festival of vyshyvankas takes place in Odessa since 2009. One of the most beautiful events of the festival is the building of live line of people dressed in vyshyvankas.
For the first time this event gathered only 79 participants. Until now, action in 2012 is considered to be the record - then live line consisted of 852 people in vyshyvankas. This year, in spite of downpour odessites set a new record, the live line consisted of 1469 people. One of the participants in the human chain became Duke himself - he, too, was dressed in vyshyvanka.
In the year of the 23-th anniversary of Ukraine's independence 1469 people in vyshyvankas have formed a human chain from the monument to the Duke to the sea. According to the organizers, vyshivankovaya live line symbolizes the unity of the Ukrainian people. The celebration of Independence Day at the festival of vyshyvankas becomes for odessites a good tradition.
After the building of live line of people in vyshyvankas all guests were able to enjoy a huge loaf, the concert program "With love for Ukraine" by the Ukrainian Academic Ensemble of music, song and dance of Odessa Regional Philharmonic.
Also on the Independence Day the guests of the festival competed in speed eating of dumplings and took part in the quest on knowledge of Ukrainian traditions.
Near the Duke was an exhibition of paintings "This is Ukraine, baby" where more than 30 artists from Odessa presented their works on modern Ukraine. In the evening was held the concerts of Ukrainian rock bands.
The program of the festival included: a fair by folk artists, master classes on national crafts, vyshyvankovaya live line, performances of Ukrainian groups and many other events.
