UN experts’ delegation visited Odessa school

In the Odessa school number 85 was held a meeting of students and teachers with the experts of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees

In the high school number 85 the faculty and students of the school met with the experts of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). At the meeting were discussed the issues of integration of refugees into Ukrainian society.
The experts also got acquainted with the experience of teachers’ work with children from refugee families, studied the ways of improving the adaptation of such children in the linguistic and cultural environment of Ukraine.

Odessa school number 85 is the first school in our city, where began to teach children from refugee families.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or to resettle in a third country. It also has a mandate to help stateless people.
