On June 12, 2015 a traditional welcoming ceremony of a vessel dedicated to its first call at the port, so-called maiden call, was held on the cruise ship THOMSON SPIRIT parked in Odessa for one day. The delegation that came on the board of ship included representatives of the Odessa Regional State Administration, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Odessa City Council, the Port Authorities, the companies of agent and tour operator, as well as customs and border guard. Supreme command of the crew dressed in parade uniform received guests in the music salon of THOMSON SPIRIT. During the ceremony, the two sides exchanged their greetings, and memorial signs.
The project on attracting ships of Thomson Cruises in Ukraine took more than two years. As a result, the beautiful ship THOMSON SPIRIT will delight Odessites and visitors of the city for three times in this year - in July, August and September. For this time on the board were about a thousand five hundred passengers (mainly British citizens).
The ship's captain Nikolaos Kafetsis warmly thanked for hospitality and said that for a long time he wanted to visit Odessa – the legendary cosmopolitan city whose residents who are known for their love for life, humor and tolerant attitude to travelers.
The main act of maiden call was handing the plaque with the name of the port and engraved date of call to the ship's captain. These signs are placed in a prominent position in the passenger area of the ship close to the captain’s bridge.

THOMSON SPIRIT is the ship owned by TUI Thomson Cruises, which has been on leading positions of the UK cruise market since 1974.
