Odessa Ukrainian Theatre celebrated its 90th anniversary

The staff of Odessa V. Vasilko Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater received congratulations on occasion of the 90th anniversary of the theater’s founding

The festive evening to the 90th anniversary of Odessa V. Vasilko Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater theatre was held on November 7, 2015.

The viewers were presented theatrical performance, telling the 90-year history of the theater, its founders, and the repertoire of actors during the jubilee evening.

The stationary Ukrainian theater opened in Odessa on the 7th of November 1925 with a play "Arsonists" written by Lunacharsky and directed by Boris Glagolin.
The first season of the theatre lasted six months. The closing ceremony was held on May 3, 1926 During this time it was prepared 14 premieres, played 120 performances, which were visited by 62 430 spectators.
The second season of the theater began with a play "Chasing Two Hares" directed by Vasiliy Vasilko, who was proposed to run the theater. Performances by this director entered the "golden fund" not only of Odessa Ukrainian Theater but all the national theaters. In 1995 the theater was named after its luminary – Vasiliy Vasilko.

The theater represented nearly a thousand performances for nine decades. The theater performed in Canada, Egypt, participated in many prestigious international festivals and won prizes there.

For today the theatre repertory numbers 29 performances created by the best directors in Ukraine and the CIS. The troop is the star of Odessa theater scene. Many of them are engaged in successful theatrical concern and in films.
