Children’s paintings contest dedicated to the sister city relations between Odessa and Istanbul finished in our city

In honor of Odessa and Istanbul’s sister city relations’ 10th anniversary, children’s paintings contest was held in our city. Friendship between the two sister cities became the topic of the contest. The project was organized by Odessa City Coucil and Consulate General of Turkey in Ukraine.

The Turkish Grand National Assembly was inaugurated on April 23, 1920. Mustafa Kemal dedicated this day to the children of the country to emphasize that they are the future of the new nation. Now this date is celebrated as National Sovereignty and Children's Day.
To mark this holiday and the 10th anniversary of twinning relations between Odessa and Istanbul a contest of children’s painting was held. As its topic friendship between the two cities was chosen this year (the contest is held for the second time). The organizers of the project were Consulate General of Turkey in Odessa and Odessa City Council.
On April 23 the award ceremony took place in the Consulate General building. Among the authors were pupils of many Odessa schools and lyceums. Participation in this contest stimulated their interest of Turkish culture, history and geography.
The winner of the contest became Olga Moroz, student of 6th grade of Chernomorskiy’s Lyceum. The Grand Prix – a trip to Istanbul for the girl and her parents was presented by Turkish Airlines Company.
