Odessites honored the memory of the Holocaust victims by laying flowers at the monument to the "Road of Death". Photo

On January 27, 2016 the citizens of Odessa commemorated the victims of the Holocaust and ghetto prisoners by laying flowers to the memorial sign "Road of Death" in Prohorovskiy Square. The event was attended by the Mayor of Odessa Gennadiy Trukhanov, representatives of regional administration, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Odessa, representatives of the Naval Forces of Ukraine, clergy and public.

In 2005, the UN General Assembly declared January 27 the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust. It was January 27, 1945 when the Auschwitz, which became one of the main symbols of the Holocaust, was liberated. In 1941-1945 there were killed more than 1.4 million people about 1.1 million of whom were Jews.
