Famous Odessa chess player Vladimir Tukmakov is 70 years old

Famous Ukrainian grandmaster and Olympic champion Vladimir Tukmakov from Odessa celebrates his 70th anniversary

On March 5, 2016 famous Ukrainian grandmaster from Odessa, three-time silver medalist of national championships and Olympic championVladimir Tukmakov celebrates his 70th anniversary.
The peak of his popularity was in the 60-80s years of the last century. Tukmakov was leader among young generation of Odessa chess players who appeared on the wave of Efim Geller’s success in Ukrainian chess competitions in 50-60s years.

Vladimir Tukmakov proved himself an excellent team player, and from 1966 to 1972, led the student team of the country to victory at the world championships for six times. Tukmakov was one of participants of the "Match of the century" which held in London against the world chess team (Tukmakov’s contribution was 2 of 3 in total score 21:19).

Vladimir Borisovich is widely known not only in Ukraine, but is famous throughout the world of chess. In 2004, Vladimir Borisovich was appointed to lead young Ukrainian team at the World Olympiad in Calvia, where Ukrainians have shown excellent results. Ukrainians were third at the European Championships in Novi Sad in 2009 and won the Olympics in Khanty-Mansiysk 2010 under the leadership of Tukmakov.

In recent years, Tukmakov successfully engaged in coaching, he is the owner of coaching "Oscar" and was recognized to be the best coach of FIDE in 2010.
