A monument to be installed in Odessa on the 100th anniversary of the famous film writer Grigoriy Koltunov

A monument to Grigoriy Koltunov, the only Ukrainian film writer awarded with the special prize in Cannes, to be installed in his native Odessa.

In order to immortalize the memory of Grigoriy Koltunov, the renowned film writer, a monument will be installed at his grave at the II Christian Cemetery of Odessa.
Odessa City Mayor Eduard Gurvits issued a decree to allot UAH 30 828 to build it. “Specialized Communal Household Service Establishment ” CE is to carry out the installation works.

G. Koltunov has been into art since his very childhood. Composers and musicians Dankevich, Orlov, Femilidi, Rakhlis were his teachers.
In 1934, he sent his first cinema script named “Lena Okuneva’s mistake” to the Republican contest and gained the 1st place. In 1936, he took part creating the “Ukrainian Songs on Screen” in short movies cycle. Koltunov was awarded with a prestigious diploma in Paris for “Oh, I Spin, I Spin…” movie song.
In total, there were 40 movies shot on Koltunov’s scripts.
For his “The 41st” movie, Koltunov was awarded with the special prize of the Cannes Film Festival’s Jury, and until recently, he’s been the only Ukrainian film writer having been awarded with this prestigious festival’s prize.
Many Koltunov’s movies gained the prize places at the international festivals. The title of Tajikistan Honorary Artist was conferred on him for his scripts to “Shah Name” trilogy by G. Firdousi (the movies gained the 1st place at the Asian countries festivals).
At the 100th anniversary of movie foundation, Grigoriy Koltunov was conferred Ukraine Honorary Artist title on.
Mr. Koltunov’s art biography is included in all the cinema encyclopedias of the world.
