Development of local democracy discussed in Odessa City Council

On March 22, 2016 the deputy mayor of Odessa Pavel Vugelman met with Secretary General of the European Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) Antonella Valmorbida in Odessa City Council.

During the meeting the sides have discussed the issue of obtaining grant funds for the development of local democracy, in particular, for stimulating creation of population self-organization entities.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of Ukrainian public organization "Association for the Promotion of the population self-organization" and representatives of the Municipality of the sister city Gdansk.

European Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) is a non-governmental organization, the purpose of which is the development of democratic governance and civil participation at the local level. The ALDA focuses on simplifying the work of the mechanisms of cooperation between local authorities and civil society.

ALDA is focused on topics such as: European integration, decentralization, civic initiatives, volunteering, human rights and sustainable economic development. Organization supports the initiative of local authorities, in particular through the expert assistance, based on knowledge and experience of ALDA staff. The first such agency in Ukraine was created in Dnepropetrovsk in 2015.
