Memorandum of partnership in the field of energy efficiency was signed with USAID Project in Odessa City Council

On September 26, 2016 the USAID Project «Municipal energy reform in Ukraine" in the face of Project Manager Diana Korsakayte and Odessa City Council in the face of the mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov signed a Memorandum of Understanding for partnership in the field of improving energy efficiency and promoting the use of clean energy sources in the city.

"Odessa will be one of the cities in Odessa region, which the USAID Project will assist in planning, management and financing of activity in the sphere of clean energy usage and providing energy efficiency projects. First of all, we will deal with the use of energy-saving measures in municipal sector: schools, hospitals, clinics and the other ", - said Gennadiy Trukhanov.

The USAID Project experts under the terms of memorandum will provide assistance to the municipality on conducting energy audits of municipal systems and buildings, preparation and implementation of investment projects for energy efficiency and use of alternative energy sources. The Project will also assist in implementation of energy management and the Plan of Actions for sustainable energy development of the city. USAID Project took the funding for all above mentioned activities.

The project will also help the city with development and implementation of information campaigns on energy efficiency in apartment buildings and making citizens responsible to the use of available energy resources and clean energy sources in the region.

Stressing the importance of signing of this Memorandum, profile deputy mayor Vyacheslav Shandryk noted that the USAID Project’s participation in preparation of programs and proposals on energy efficiency is a kind of reference for the international financial institutions (World Bank, NEFCO, EBRD and the others).

United States Agency for International Development (USAID) - is an independent government agency, directly led by State Secretary of the USA.
USAID project "Municipal Energy Reform in Ukraine" has been working in Ukraine since October 2013. The purpose of the project is reducing emissions of greenhouse gas and enhancing energy security of Ukraine through improving energy policy, increasing energy efficiency and investment in the energy sector.
To achieve these objectives within 4 years the Project assists Ukrainian cities in attracting investment from international financial institutions, commercial banks and private investors in the projects on energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. Cities that have signed the agreement, have committed themselves to reduce CO2 emissions for 20%, as well as replace the energy balance of urban natural gas at alternative and renewable energy sources to the 2020 year.
