UNICEF has chosen Odessa as a pilot region for implementation of an integrated system of social services

The mayor of Odessa Gennadiy Trukhanov had a meeting with the head of the UNICEF office in Ukraine, Giovanna Barberis on May 25, 2017.


During the meeting the sides have discussed the implementation of urban social programs and increasing the effectiveness of the social services’ provision. The focus was on vulnerable groups.


Ms. Barberis noted that many interesting initiatives and social projects are being implemented in Odessa, which must be shared with other municipalities and the united territorial communities of Ukraine. That is why Odessa was chosen as a venue for the workshop "Building an Integrated System of Social Services in the Conditions of Decentralization: Modern Practice and Prospects". The workshop was organized by UNICEF in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Policy and is scheduled on May 25-26.


During the dialogue, the sides have discussed a plan for further cooperation between UNICEF and municipality of Odessa on the introduction and development of an integrated system of social services, especially for children and families with children who are in difficult living conditions.



Information
UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund) was established on December 11, 1946. Its foundation in Kiev was opened in 1997 and since then it has been working to improve the quality of life of children and families throughout Ukraine. Protection of maternity, the reduction of infant mortality, as well as halt in the spread of HIV / AIDS and tuberculosis, the protection of vulnerable categories and promotion of gender equality are among the main areas of their work.
